FAO Fishery Information Network Hungarian pilot node set up 6.10.2010 Since the late 1990s FAO REU and FAO SEUR have initiated and actively supported the AgroWeb – Network program. Under the auspices of this program the present website of the Hungarian fishery and aquaculture sector has been elaborated with the objectives to:
The website was designed to function as a central portal of the sector within the frame of FAO Fisheries Information Network (FIN) of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). Through this portal stakeholding organizations, enterprises and professionals can easily be reached by those who want to buy or sell fish and fish products, specialised capital equipment and production materials or seek sector related services, expertise and education. The website also offers useful links not only to national and international organizations, but also to a wide range of important sector related strategic and technical information. Because of the above features, the website is recommended being used by the public, interested in fisheries and aquaculture in general and seeking for specific information in particular. The website should also be used by fish and input producers, wholesalers and retailers of fish and fish products, service providers, as well as by those who are looking for national and international business partners and cooperation in production, research, training and publication. Page “The sector” is a concise introduction to the sector. This includes key information and statistics, and presents a concise overview of the main activities of government and non-government organizations, enterprises and professionals of the sector. Page “Stakeholders” was created because finding reliable producers, service providers or expertise is both difficult and time consuming. Therefore this page allows quick finding of potential partners in cooperation and business. Search and screening partners can be done on the basis of main activities, produced species, geographical location and the preferred language of communication. Pages “Links” contains “links to organizations” and “links to documents”. The first section lists actual and potential national and international partners of the sector, while the second section ensures access to sector related national and international documents, technical information and important publications.
